Westinghouse iGen160s Portable Solar Generator Review

"Carbon monoxide goes through walls, it penetrates sheet rock very, very easily, and having your generator in your garage or out on the porch or in another room of your house is absolutely no protection. It can be deadly, and it can kill many people at one"

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Comparable to the Honda 2000 ( I had both )
Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2019 by james w. barnes

"Better than the Honda in that: 1) quite a bit higher wattage, yet the same weight and size, and even a lower price. That extra wattage means the unit is not strained as much when on a higher load. Also, I needed it to get the higher heats on my welder, and also to run the roof air conditioner on my motorhome. 2)Also it has a digital display showing watts, fuel level, and est of time remaining on fuel. However, my copy has a slight miss on low loads, which is helped by setting it a bit to choke, so it is likely merely a bit of guff caught in the fuel jet. Also, the gas guage is accurate when full (3.8l), but only drops to 1.9l, and runs out reading that. I've used it steadily for one year and it's going good. I just barely gave it 5 stars. My problems are minor compared to the important qualities."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Extremely fuel efficient, powerful and quiet inverter generator...
Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2017 by TechMaster

"After several weeks researching inverter generators suiting my requirements and budget, I finally purchased the iGen2500 over the Honda EU2000i. Decision was based on iGen2500 being more powerful, more features, brand name and same 3 year warranty at half the price. I've being using it for 4 weeks as home backup power after hurricane Maria struck PR leaving the Island off the power grid. In average, I use it daily for 12 hours powering a refrigerator, 1-55" LED TV, 1-40" LCD TV, 1-Blu-ray DVD, 8-16Watt Lamps, 2-big fans, 1 800W Expresso coffee brewer running 6 mins. cycle in the morning, charging my cel. phones, tablets and laptop and washing 2 laundry loads per week. Generator is very quiet and fuel efficient giving an average of 12 hours per 1 gallon of gas in Eco mode. Extremely satisfied with it's performance and purchased price of $549.99."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Off to a good start!
Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2018 by Rick Reichert

"After doing extensive research on line I bought the Westinghouse iGen1200 super quiet portable inverter generator. I plan to use it to keep my travel trailer battery charged when camping in the woods or on cloudy days. The generator arrived at my home on the day scheduled. I expected to have to sign for it, but the UPS guy just rang the doorbell and left it on my doorstep. My garage door was open and I'm sure he could tell that someone was at home. The Amazon shipping box appeared to be in good condition. When I opened it I was surprised by how little padding Amazon had placed around the generator box, and that the generator was lying on its side. There were no markings on the Amazon box for "this side up", so I'm not sure in what orientation it was transported. I opened the Westinghouse box and removed the plastic bag containing a large printed manual, an emissions warranty, a one page quick-start guide, and a bonus item card. I removed the top cardboard insert that contained an oil funnel, a spark plug wrench and handle, and a small bottle of 10w-30w engine oil. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the generator itself was in a clear plastic bag and was protected by a foam insert on the sides and bottom. I removed the generator from the box and set it on a table for inspection. The housing, rubber feet, and other exterior components looked good with no breaks, scratches, gouges, etc. The generator looked brand new, as it should. I followed the quick start guide in preparing the generator for the initial start. I removed the side maintenance panel to add engine oil. Having read the other posts about this unit I did not just dump the entire bottle of oil into the engine. I added a little at a time until the level was at the top of the dipstick when it was screwed in. The supplied funnel worked great! See picture for how much oil was left in the oil container after the engine was filled. I liked that the plastic oil dipstick had an o-ring seal. I looked at the carburetor fuel line and fittings. I removed the spark plug access panel and carefully removed the spark plug wire from the plug. I felt the spark plug to make sure it was tight and found no looseness or wobble. I replaced the spark plug and side access panels. Leaving the ignition switch in the OFF position, I pulled on the starter cord about a dozen times to spin the crankshaft and splash lubricating oil around inside the engine. I filled the fuel tank with premium, non-ethanol gasoline (Valero had it) and slid the choke lever to the choke position. The Efficiency Mode Switch was in the off position. I turned the ignition switch / fuel valve to the ON position and waited a minute to allow fuel to reach the carburetor. I pulled on the starter cord a few times with no results. I moved the choke lever a tad to the left to open the choke a little and pulled on the starter cord again. This time the generator started right up. After a few seconds I moved the choke lever slowly to the fully open position. The engine continued running relatively smoothly, although with an occasional misfire. I moved the Efficiency Mode Switch to the ON position and listened as the engine slowed down in speed. Again the idle was fairly smooth, but with an occasional misfire. After the engine ran for a few minutes and seemed to be warmed up I moved the Efficiency Mode Switch to the OFF position and then plugged in an AC electric heater. This heater has three positions; 250 watts, 500 watts, and 1500 watts. I turned the heater dial up to maximum output and then put the heater mode switch into the 250 watt position. The engine changed speed as it picked up the load, and ran much smoother under load than it did at idle. I turned the heater to the 500 watt position and again the engine picked up a little more speed and ran smoothly. I let the generator run with the 500 watt load for a few minutes then turned the heater off. I did not try the 1500 watt heater load since I didn't want to intentionally overload the generator. I have another 3-stage electric heater and I intend to use both heate"

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Great little portable generator
Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2019 by Rick

"After doing a lot of research, I bought this unit, not knowing if it would be adequate to run the essential loads of my house. I tested it with the actual loads (26 cubic foot refrigerator, 1/2HP sump pump, various lights, and two gas-fired furnaces) and it worked flawlessly. I can't say that this generator would be able to handle the load if every device went on at the same time (unlikely to happen, but in theory, it could). It started with the first pull, ran very quietly, and used gas miserly. Although the powering of the above loads wasn't automatic (unlike a 10 KW permanent standby generator using a transfer switch), it cost a LOT less than the $10k price of a fully automatic generator. For the few times the utility power goes out, it provides me a peace of mind that is worth every penny it costs. I can't say enough good things about this unit!"

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ iGen2200
Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2019 by MThomas

"I was looking for a generator to primarily run our new pellet stove in case of power outage during the cold mid-Atlantic winter. I needed something that was portable and easy for my wife to use in case I am out of town. After several hours of testing and use, I can say this is a great little generator that will meet our needs (and more). The setup process was very easy. I added the included oil, some ethanol-free gasoline and it fired up in two pulls. After warming up for 10 minutes, I was was pleasantly surprised when I flipped the "Efficiency Mode" switch to on. Very quiet! With the initial warm-up complete, I ran an extension cord and plugged in the pellet stove. Everything worked perfectly. The generator spooled up just enough to power the start-up sequence of the stove. Once it was lit, the RPMs spooled back down to provide the power necessary to run the fans of the stove. This is great peace of mind for when bad weather hits. Based on my math, the iGen2200 will be more than adequate to keep us warm, run our chest freezer and keep all of our iDevices charged. As for ease of use, it's not completely fool-proof, but anyone with basic knowledge of small engines will have no issues running this generator (to include my lovely wife). I will say I am very impressed with the technology in this motor. After the initial run, it doesn't even require a full stroke of the pull-cord before it fires right up. I look forward to using the iGen for my summer projects away from the house."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Portable Power for less
Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2018 by Launchpilot

"This is the second unit that I have bought. After a year with the first one I decided I wanted a second to parallel with and run the AC on the travel trailer (TT) we camp in. One of these units is enough to run all the trailer (33ft) but not EVERYTHING at once. You can run the AC fan, fridge, water pump, and lights but as soon as we ran the small microwave it overloaded the generator. It automatically kicked power off and after a couple minutes it automatically came back on. We were more careful after that. I could run the generator out of the back of the truck where it was well ventilated but also out of sight and sound dampened. It's quiet until you put a pretty good load on it and then the motor kicks up to handle the load. The pair is still quieter than the 3500 watt Champion with the same output and much more portable. Very satisfied!"

100 Watt Portable Solar Generator

The Westinghouse i. Gen160s clocks in at 100 Rated Watts with a peak performance of 150 Watts. easy to start, quiet, and a lot of quality for a fraction of the price of the Honda. The i. Gen2500 is a great little generator. I'm a HVAC contractor by trade and this one is just about as good as any Honda I've used. It’s nice having a fuel gauge and knowing how much gas it needs to get going. It’s nice having a fuel gauge that's easy to read and carry around. Fast Charging Portable Solar Generator

Beside the high quality value our favorite feature of the Westinghouse i. Gen160s is it's abillity to charge devices fast. Great generator, quite possibly the best on the market, if not the best I've used. This generator is fine for camping use as it is not too loud, has great features including two USB plugs for charging your phones. The digital readouts for remaining fuel, generating time remaining, power usage and voltage output are nice features. Powered two lights with it to test it and output was so low it didn't even register. Have enough power to operate a refrigerator and a multiple device freezer with no issues. Impressive unit for the price. I may buy a second one for parallel use. This is the second unit that I have bought. You have two of the fastest charging options avaiable, USB-C and Qualcomm Quick Charge 3. This is a great generator/ inverter. Glad I purchased one before winter arrived. Wish I would have purchased it before Santa Maria hit. This generator arrived quickly and is excellent, very powerful if compared with the size and weight. Fully charged, started on the first pull, very quiet. This will serve as backup for essential items if we lose electricity during a hurricane and also for home power outages during any power outage. I bought this generator for camping and small construction projects. Right out of the box, added oil and gas and it fired up on the first pull. Very user friendly and a very good value for the money. I recommend it to anyone with a small generator. Read more . . .

Westinghouse iGen160s In Conclusion

Good value, quiet, well built, well packaged, really easy to start and use, it is well built, fuel efficient and pretty damn quiet. For me, this is a no brainer. If you are in a similar situation and wondering how much it will cost you, read up. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. I bought this generator because I needed a portable one for camping in my new trailer. I already own the Champion 4000-Watt RV Ready DH Series Open Frame Inverter with Quiet Technology for my house but it's a little cumbersome and heavy for camping. I wanted a generator that would be big enough to power a RV AC unit but still be able to carry it like a suitcase. Check out Westinghouse iGen160s on Amazon now
